Revitalized: NOV 9 – DEC 2 2020 at Studio Barnes/Seattle.

The follow-up to 2017’s MUSIC FOR BIG CITIES is a positive and decidedly more energetic offering. Chock full of confidence and clarity. A DANGEROUS MAN evokes the transcendent spirit of album oriented rock. Seemingly built to walk across time. Not many bands write this kind of music. It’s fresh.

Each track has a life of its own. The album’s production harkens back to a ’70’s/Jack Douglas or an ’80’s/Bill Laswell energy and sound — where “feel” overrides fussy, technical consideration. Together, the ten songs represent a total album experience and deserve to be listened-to and listened-to. Over and over again.

The album’s lyrics are more expansive than it’s predecessor. The emotional/psychological range of relationships, introspection and observation among the tracks ALL THAT I WANT, FUCK + LOVE, KISSING TALES, and TAKE ME DOWN WITH YOU illustrate a complexity and sensitivity, perceivably lost in today’s conversation. Also worthy of note is the tongue-in-cheek snapshot of hipster sycophants in YOU CAN ONLY LICK — rounding out the topical mix a la Frank Zappa/Max Webster and jam-packed into a concise track-time of 2m:16s.

Yes, it’s not perfect.

Perfection requires funding. Mainly to cover costly gear and to accommodate an uninhibited schedule for the team to focus, perform and assure delivery of a “perfect” result. There are a few: pops, dirty edits, plosives, some guitar hum, an uncorrected looseness and, of course, pitchy vocals.

That said… A DANGEROUS MAN is a great and totally independent album.
